McCauley neighbourhood connects to create a safer community
Community agencies, groups and residents are gathering for an afternoon of fun and information Nov. 5, at an event being organized by the community, for the community.
“We’re inviting residents to bring their families, meet their neighbours and learn about local services and resources,” said Mark Davis, McCauley community coordinator for REACH Edmonton.
“We know that a connected community is a safe community, so we wanted to invite groups, organizations and agencies in McCauley to highlight their programs and services.”
REACH has been working with active groups in the community for more than a year, to fulfill REACH Recommendation 6, which mandates that REACH work “to develop a new cadre of grassroots community leaders who support a preventative approach to community safety.”
This recommendation comes from the City of Edmonton’s 2009 REACH Report, which founded REACH Edmonton and laid out the organization’s mandate.
The McCauley Community Gathering and Resource Fair will take place at Santa Maria Goretti Community Centre (11050 – 90 St NW) on Sunday, November 5, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Entertainment will include the Prince Charles Fiddlers, The Awesomehots, and Julia’s Jubilant Facepainting. The event will also feature family friendly activities, food and refreshments, prizes and draws.
“This is an inclusive opportunity for all McCauley residents to connect with community groups and learn about the resources available to them,” said Davis. “Dozens of community organizations will be present to share information with residents and connect with each other for a safer neighbourhood.”
