Purple Flag Committee

The Purple Flag Program is an international standard for safety and vibrancy of hospitality destinations. Edmonton's 104 Street Purple Flag Committee is comprised of business representatives (hotel operators, Rogers Place, late night venues), city services, residents and REACH Edmonton.

Together, this diverse group achieved international Purple Flag Program accreditation in June 2016 for one of the city's busiest streets (106 Street - 102 Street).

"It's the gold standard for a place at night time, in the evening," said Jonathan Birkett, program manager with Purple Flag. "It king of symbolizes a safe and secure place, a place that's diverse and that's really vibrant and exciting."

REACH's Role:

  • Advises the committee on resources to engage with vulnerable people
  • Works to engage the 24/7 Crisis Diversion program directly with area businesses and residents
  • Participated in the 2016 International Responsible Hospitality Conference
