Lunch and Learn explores new and expanded addictions and mental health services at Royal Alex
The Sexual Exploitation Working Group (SEWG) is hosting a workshop to explore the new and expanded addictions and mental health services available in Edmonton’s inner city.
The Lunch and Learn is happening March 19, and will go over the services offered by the new Access 24/7 Addiction and Mental Health program at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, as well as the expansion of the Addiction Recovery and Community Health (ARCH) team into the emergency room at the hospital.
Presenters,,Kimberly Poong, Project Lead, Access 24/7 Addiction & Mental Health and Meighan Achtemichuk, Nurse Educator, ARCH Team, will go over their areas of expertise on the new services available at the Royal Alex.
“Several provincial reports and broad consultation with internal and external partners have identified access to addiction and mental health services is largely fragmented, uncoordinated and extremely complex. This has led to longstranding frustration for clients, patients, families, healthcare providers and community organizations,” said Poong.
Currently there are multiple access point into community-based addiction and mental health services across Edmonton. We know from exploring existing models across the country that access to services should be available 24/7 and accommodate multiple methods of entry, including walk-in, phone and outreach.
“Beginning in September 2017, we consulted with more than 400 individuals, including patients and families,” said Poong. “We asked all of our partners to tell us about their experiences accessing addiction and mental health services. This presentation will summarize the feedback received and share the plan to transform access to addiction and mental health services in Edmonton.”
The workshop is free to attend at Grant MacEwan University’s Allard Hall, and will also be webcast at https://reachedmonton.ca/page/webcasts.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch. A light snack and refreshments will be provided.
