INITIATIVES
Neighbourhood Organizing Initiative
REACH supports the convening of community partners,
encourages activation and collaboration, and facilitates dialogue
around safety issues in several neighbourhoods and geographic
communities in Edmonton.
INITIATIVE GOALS
Building upon the Safer McCauley initiative, REACH has
developed the Neighbourhood Organizing Initiative (NOI). The framework for NOI is adaptable to any neighbourhood.
• The framework includes a process for mobilizing
community members to identify their safety priorities,
developing a collective vision for a safe and vibrant
neighbourhood, and co-designing community-driven
responses.
• REACH is providing support to an increasing number of
neighbourhoods, and is influencing outcomes related to
higher complexity, city-wide issues such as needle debris
and problem properties.
• REACH has increased its connectivity and collaboration with
neighbours, social agencies, businesses and business
associations, Community Leagues, City of Edmonton
departments, EPS branches, and elected officials.
• REACH is engaged with the following neighbourhoods on community safety and well-being initiatives:
Alberta Avenue District
Chinatown
Downtown
Inglewood
Leefield
McCauley
Mill Woods
Prince Charles
Sherbrooke
Woodcroft
OUTCOMES
"Thanks for all the work you do, for the efforts in McCauley by the community league, by Revitalization, by the safety committee, by the shop owners. I think McCauley is Edmonton's most vibrant neighbourhood already."
- City Councillor
“I can't wait to attend the next meeting. I think it's a great group of folks who are willing to listen and respectfully challenge each other.”
- Alberta Member of Legislative Assembly
