Edmonton celebrates Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada. During this time, Edmontonians are encouraged to take extra time and effort to learn about the cultures, traditions, and experiences of the traditional custodians of this land we now call home.

This National month was designated in 2009, and is a time to encourage Canadians to consider the history of this land as we move into the season when so many of us venture out to appreciate the beauty that Turtle Island has to offer.

We encourage you to take some time in June not only to learn more about First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures, but to get connected to the wide variety of vibrant Indigenous communities in the Edmonton area. Reconciliation is about relationship - one of the best ways to learn about Indigenous cultures is by listening to Indigenous people.

We especially encourage you to connect with community and set aside time for learning on June 21, National Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Below is a listing of Indigenous events happening in the Edmonton area throughout the month of June.
