ERUM ASFAR

REACH Board Member

Erum Afsar is a builder, creator and tree-shaker. She currently resides in Amiskwaciy Waskahikan, currently known as Edmonton, on Treaty 6 Territory.

Her professional, community and personal experience will be an asset to the REACH Board.

She has experience in board governance, leadership, stakeholder management, and financial management. She is an engineer and Director of Enforcement for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). She has strong volunteer and board experience, previously serving as a Board Member of Islamic Family Social Services (IFSSA), and currently serving as Councillor of Kananaskis Improvement District and Board Member of Bow Valley Regional Housing.

Giving back and involvement in the community is important to Erum. She has been on many boards and committees including Anthology (supporting the Edmonton Public Library) and NextGen.

Her professional and community work was recognized when she was honoured with Top 40 Under 40 by Avenue Magazine, The Next 10 by Alberta Venture and A Woman Who Inspires by the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, among other honours and awards. She was also recognized as an Engineering Excellence Alumni Award recipient from Queen’s University. Most recently, she was a finalist in Woman of the Year for MaxGala Awards. She was also one of 250 leaders from across Canada selected to participate in the 2020-2021 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference.

Her personal motto is: “I am here to do good and to uplift others.”
