IKECHUKWU (IKE) NWAKA

REACH Board Member

Ikechukwu (Ike) Nwaka is an applied economist and Lecturer at the
Alberta School of Business, University of Alberta. He teaches Business Economics, Economics for Managers, and courses on energy markets, sustainability, labour inequality, and global development—several of which have seen strong and growing enrollment.

Before moving to Canada to join his family, Ike was an Assistant Professor of Economics and Co-Director of the Center for Gender Studies at Girne American University in Cyprus. He holds a PhD and MSc in Economics from Eastern Mediterranean University (Cyprus) and a BSc in Economics from Abia State University (Nigeria).

Ike has co-authored peer-reviewed publications in academic journals and serves on the editorial boards of Kadın/Woman 2000 (Journal for Women’s Studies) and the Journal of African Development. His research applies advanced quantitative methods to produce actionable insights on several socio-economic issues.

A trusted advisor and collaborative educator, Ike is deeply committed to equity-focused approaches that support inclusive learning, public policy, and safer, more vibrant communities. He works across sectors to ensure diverse voices and lived experiences inform decision-making and development efforts.

Outside of work, he enjoys conducting research, spending time with his family, and participating in faith-based and community initiatives.
